Historic house
Conishead Priory was founded by Christian monks in 1160 as a hospital for the poor. The present mansion was completed in 1836 as the Braddyll’s family home. Since then it has been a spa hotel, miners’ convalescent home and wartime military hospital.
The Romantic Gothic mansion, dominated by two 30m high octagonal towers, has huge reception rooms with decorative ceilings, a grand staircase, a 53m long cloister corridor, amazing stained glass, and vaulted great hall.
