Introducing the secrets of happiness

(6 weeks)

Happiness, Health and Meditation
Our happiness and health depend upon the state of our mind. With meditation we can gain control over our mind and cultivate the real causes of happiness that do not depend upon external conditions.

Meditation: A determination to increase the causes of real happiness.

Solving Our Problems Through Patience
Discover how we can remain cool and calm in any situation by
practising patient acceptance.  As a result find the space in your mind to react to problems positively and with clarity and wisdom.

Meditation: A determination to accept our difficulties

The Freedom of Contentment
Living in a constant state of desire or craving creates dissatisfaction in our mind and never ultimately leads to lasting happiness. By developing contentment we can free ourselves from deceptive desires and start to discover a more meaningful way of life.

Meditation: Feeling of contentment

The Balanced Mind of Equanimity
By training our mind in equanimity we shall experience a balanced mind free from strong feelings of craving and aversion which are the source of most of our problems. This equanimity is the essential basis for developing beneficial minds like love and compassion.

Meditation: Equanimity towards others

A Natural High - Seeing Others as Precious
By understanding how our happiness depends upon inner wealth and realisations, we can come to see others as precious. Such an exalted view of others will naturally lead to positive feelings of love and compassion. With such an attitude it will not be difficult to find lasting happiness.

Meditation: Seeing others as precious

Advice From a Spiritual Friend

Meditation Class Description

What is a typical class like?

A typical class consists of a gentle relaxation meditation, teaching, discussion, and final meditation. The meditations are guided and are suitable for beginners as well as the experienced. Each class is self-contained so feel free to join at any time!

Why meditate?

The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful.  If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and so we shall experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful we shall find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions.  If we train in meditation our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we shall experience a purer and purer form of happiness.  Eventually we shall be able to stay happy all the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

“When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within.”
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
